Spring helps flowers bloom, but summer helps them shine!
Here we are in the thick of heat and sunshine. The gardens are thriving after the transition from Spring through Summer, cool season crops have faded. I am still working on dead heading ,trimming back and spreading seeds . I am also succession planting sunflowers and others. The zinnias are in full bloom. The dahlias pop out new blooms daily. The lisianthus are just outstanding! Snapdragons have bloomed and bloomed and bloomed! Amaranth, strawflowers, statice, hypercium, hydrangea, gomphrena and many others have been blooming their pretty heads off!
Every Spring I am so jealous of the Southern flower farmers and their early season crops yet now that summertime heat has arrived I am happy not to be farther south. Afternoons are tough in the gardens. Mornings and evenings, while it is still cool are a delightful and peaceful in the gardens.
The garden flowers are beautiful in wedding , funeral, anniversary , birthday and everyday bouquets. I enjoy customizing adding a favorite color, flower or forget me nots to funeral arrangement and customizing for any occasion.
Next week is a wedding week! Looking forward to designing this elegant white wedding from the gardens with the addition of florist (boughten) white roses. Not something I want to attempt growing! I did plant 10 garden roses early this Spring, they then got nipped with a frost, then the heat struck! I thought for sure i had lost them. With a lot of fertilizer and rooting compound they rebounded. Then the deer ate them… they grew back , now I am spraying weekly for Japanese Beetles… right now the buds are plentiful and the buds gorgeous! I am watching a plot of asters bud up and I have several areas of mums that are now healthy and green to fill out a lush fall season…. Both are relatively new to me so I can’t wait to see what they do! Looking forward to the upcoming August-October wedding season, next years late Summer fall weddings are filling in nicely. I still have lots of openings for Spring weddings so feel free to share my info… Spring wildflower weddings are beautiful.
Tuesday Aug 6 is the next garden tour and bouquet class, with August 26 being a fall themed garden tour and dried swag class.
May, June and July sure went fast. Just like the hummingbirds that buzz by me in the gardens! While I am looking forward to cooler gardening days I am far from wanting the season to be over! Many more garden surprises in store!
